The 1st Brazilian Swedish Workshop in Aeronautics and Defence will be held on 13th and 14th November 2014 at Aeronautics Institute of Technology (ITA), in São José dos Campos, Brazil. The workshop is organized by ITA and the Swedish-Brazilian Research and Innovation Centre (CISB), with participation of Swedish and Brazilian researchers, industries and government agencies.

The purpose of the workshop is to discuss and propose strategies for long term cooperation between Swedish and Brazilian universities and industries in critical areas of Aeronautics and Defence. The workshop will be a breeding environment for collaborative research projects that are expected to generate technological knowledge and capacitate human resources to develop innovative solutions for aeronautics and defence stakeholders.

The motivation for the workshop comes from the perspectives of increasing collaboration between Brazil and Sweden that arise from the commercial agreement under negotiation between the Swedish company SAAB and the Brazilian Air Force. This cooperation between Brazil and Sweden is expected to be a fruitful long term association.

The first day of the workshop focuses on the discussion of strategies to organize and perform this cooperation. It includes presentations from Swedish and Brazilian industries, universities and government agencies. The second day of the workshop focuses on the identification of challenges and potential topics for collaboration in the following areas:

- Aircraft design and operations
- Aerodynamics, aeroacoustics and CFD
- Structure and materials
- Product development and manufacturing
- Propulsion systems
- Automatic control and autonomous systems
- Embedded systems and security
